CONCEPT
Water–Ice–Snow
2001/2002
7 cubes in freezing process, with coloured water mixed with crushed ice in layers
7 cubes with photoprints of water surfaces under ice blocks

IDEA
– Everything is in process, is growing and dying in a never ending circle.
– The four seasons are coming and going.
– Water is the most interesting medium to show the flow of time.
– Freezing water can develop most interesting textures.
– The transparency of ice in contrast to the structure of snow.

INTENTION
For years I have been working around water. One of my first works in this direction was the installation ‘852’
(1996) about the ‘Estonia’. Since then I revolve around all aspects of water in my artwork: the dangers, the
matrix/basis of all life on earth, the silence, the flux, the means of transportation, the salt and more. Here in
Hamburg I have no possibility to work with the aspect of freezing because of the mild winters. In my project
at the vinter biennal I want to work with and document the process of freezing.

Between 1990 and 1999 I have worked with cubes as the most simple shape for sculptures. For this project
I return to this shape. Over the years took pictures of water surfaces all over the world.
