THE REALIZATION

27th OF FEBRUARY: After a nice sightseeing tour and lunch we arrived at the site of
the snow cubes. First suprise: we got 3 cubes instead of 2 to work with. Ricky meant it
could be good to have more material just in case for experiments.
At first we had to shovel off all new snow from the cubes to measure them for sawing.
We had prepared some saws: a part of an old band saw and plain wire. But nothing
worked. Even the normal huge saws from the organizer could not cut 1,50 meters in
one. After all hopeless tries Ricky brought us some barbed wire: unbelievably, – it worked!
We cut the first cube into 8 small onces before we were collected for the ride back to the
hotel.

28th OF FEBRUARY: Arriving at the site this morning, for hours we coulden’t really
start to work. We had to wait for help of a tractor to move the smaller cubes to the right
positions. In the meantime we sawed the second cube into 8 smaller ones. The first
series of 7 cubes were set just before lunch. After lunch we could start carving them
into identical sizes (some had been damaged by the fork of the tractor). Carving the
hard snow is a good job to warm yourself up against the cold.
Late afternoon Lasse on his tractor turned up to position the cubes of the second
series. This worked much better. He had explained exactly what directions he needed
from my side to handle the fragile snow cubes. This evening we felt quite better by
seeing the result of the day’s work.

That night, after a nice dinner in a Thai restaurant, we saw beautiful northern lights!
